about

Gritty blues-rock... wailing like a barroom jam.

lyrics

I met a man
Who was nobody's son
Looked like a healer
But he talked like a gun
I killed that man
Justice just to see it done
He fell like a savior
And he cursed me to the Dog Wood Run

I loved me a goddess
Dressed only in rain
She gave me three daughters
I gave her my name
She said "yea, you can give all you want to
But it's never going to be the same"
Then she stormed and drowned my speaking
And she washed away my shame

I came across a lost dog
Dying of thirst
Led him to water
And he asked what it was worth
I said "no, keep your bones, Dog
'Cause lord knows you ain't been the first"
...That doggie growled...
"I'm going to find the bitch who loved me
If I gotta walk this whole damn earth."

I broke into Eden
To kill me a snake
'Cause my babies are teething
And like hell they're going to taste
I caught that serpent sleeping
He said, "son you're making a mistake!
You see, your Adam's never missed me
Because I was born right here between his legs"

I gamble with preachers
'Cause a saint's never won
I play with believers
'Cause they never call my bluff
Except for just this once
When I bet my father's love
It cost me all my reason
Now here I'm doing time on the Dog Wood Run

His style has driven comparisons to the folk heavyweights of the 60s, but critics have lauded a voice that reinvents (rather than recalls) the genre.
